The guitarist and vocalist Robert Cray released his debut album of contemporary blues, Who’s Been Talkin’, in 1980. While the record enjoyed some regional success, it failed to chart nationally. But as the 80’s progressed, Cray’s unique blend of blues and soul slowly earned him a wider audience, with his 1986 album, Strong Persuader, peaking at # 13 on the Billboard 200.
