Thomas Patrick Gilbert Cholmondeley (/ ˈ tʃ ʌ m l i / CHUM-lee; 19 June 1968 – 17 August 2016) was a Kenyan farmer. He was the great-grandson of the 3rd Baron Delamere , one of the first and most influential British settlers in Kenya, [3] and was heir to the Delamere title at the time of his death, being the eldest son of the 5th Baron Delamere .
Cholmondeley died in January 1596 and was buried at Malpas. He was succeeded by his son, Sir Hugh Cholmondeley (MP for Cheshire in 1585, knighted in 1588, and High Sheriff of Cheshire for 1589). Hugh George Cholmondeley, 5th Baron Delamere (/ˈtʃʌmli/; born 18 January 1934), styled The Honourable Hugh George Cholmondeley from birth until 1979, is a British peer. He is a well-known figure in the evolution and development of post-colonial Kenya. He was educated at Magdalene College, Cambridge. He owns the vast Soysambu Ranch in Kenya.
The children of that marriage were: Hugh Cholmondeley, 3rd Baron Delamere (28 April 1870 – 13 November 1931); [1] married, firstly, Lady Florence Cole, daughter of Lowry Cole, 4th Earl of Enniskillen, and Charlotte Baird, in 1899; had issue. He married, secondly, in 1928, Gwladys Beckett, who later became the second female Mayor of Nairobi.
