1963–1972. The Strawbs were formed as the Strawberry Hill Boys in early 1963, made up of Dave Cousins on vocals, guitar and banjo; Tony Hooper on guitar, percussion and vocals; and Arthur Phillips on mandolin and vocals. In June 1964, Phillips left and double bassist "Talking" John Berry took over as the band's third member. Berry was replaced by Ron Chesterman in the autumn of 1966.

A deal with Elton John's Rocket label was almost in the bag, when Cousins himself left to work in local radio, and the band split up. In 1987 the Strawbs now reformed used some of the songs and re recorded them for the album "dont say goodbye". 19 de mar. de 2020 · Now, Heartbreak Hill has been newly remastered and features four bonus tracks, including two David Cousins home demos from 1978 and live recordings of 'Heartbreak Hill' and 'Starting Over' from The Strawbs 40th anniversary celebration in September 2009 performed by the line-up who recorded the original album.
