2015 marks our 15th anniversary of Creole for Kidz & the History of Zydeco educational performing arts concerts. They are referred to as school time performances, visiting/teaching artists series, educational outreach and performing arts-in-education.
Twenty years ago this year, 2020 – we recorded Creole For Kidz & The History of Zydeco CD. It was very unique at the time, pre-widespread Creole awareness and pride of heritage. The Cajun, or Acadian heritage organizations had a strong presence in the community, so they were already in schools, at festivals and lobbying political leadership for a place a table.
A recording project that was inspired by Taj Mahal who encouraged Terrance to tell his story for children, youth & family listeners. 20 tracks total; 10 brief narration and 10 music tracks with 7 of those being original written by Simien. 10 page PDF study guide available on the Creole4Kidz page
Simien’s groundbreaking Creole for Kidz & The History of Zydeco for student, youth and family audiences has reached nearly 500,000 since its debut in 2000. This dynamic program is presented at performing art centers, schools and festivals.
