27 de ene. de 2009 · "The Apostle" is one of the the best films I have seen. When I started watching it, I thought I might be disappointed. I was not. I have enjoyed the other films I have seen Robert Duvall in, but this was his best performance of all. He brilliantly captured the part of the the charismatic, Southern preacher.

A truly BEHEMOTH of a performance by Duvall. The energy it must've taken to write, finance, direct, and give such a ferocious performance, is astonishing. Though I thought it was a little too long, it's a minor complaint. The film has a really good cast. Especially a young Walton Goggins, Farrah Fawcett, John Beasley, and Billy Bob Thornton.

"The Apostle" is beautifully filmed and captures well a portion of the rural South: you can almost feel the humidity and smell the swampwater. And while the well-known actors in the film (Farrah Fawcett, Billy Bob Thornton, Miranda Richardson) all turn in fine performances, it is the unknowns --the church members and townfolk -- that really give the film an added authenticity.
