The Mekons are a British post-punk band formed in the late 1970’s as an art collective.They are one of the longest-running and most prolific of the first-wave British punk rockbands. The band's style has evolved over time to incorporate aspects of country music, folk music, alternative rock and occasional experiments with dub.
Founded in the late '70s by Jon Langford and Tom Greenhalgh, the Mekons started out as a punk band, inspired by the first wave of British punk rock. Before long however, they were incorporating synthesizers, reggae, and just plain weirdness into their style.

Mekons archeology yields a 1978 demo, Where Were You, and the 1981 rockabilly East Is Red. Best of the bunch are the Captain Beefheart's distorted punk-blues Polaroid and the 1987 B-side 1967 Revisited (Cooking Vinyl), haflway between spaghetti-western instrumental and synth-pop balladry.
