This CD has songs (12-string guitar and vocals) that were recorded in Atlanta in 1949 with the better recording equipment that was available by that point in time, and while his voice was still good and his guitar playing had matured.

He played with a fluid, syncopated finger-style guitar technique, common among many exponents of Piedmont blues. Unlike his contemporaries, he came to use twelve-string guitars exclusively. McTell was also an adept slide guitarist, unusual among ragtime bluesmen.
