Island has put out an excellent 16-track CD called "Close Watch" which does select the best of Cale's work up to 1998. "The Island Years", on the other hand, collects onto two discs everything that Cale recorded with Island Records, including a couple of tracks previously unreleased, all digitally remastered by Steve Fallone so it sounds beautiful.

The Island Years je kompilační dvojalbum Johna Calea.Album vydalo v roce 1996 vydavatelství Island Records.V roce 2007 vyšla reedice alba pod názvem Gold. Na albu jsou stejné skladby, pouze upravený obal. Album obsahuje nahrávky z alb Fear (1974), Slow Dazzle a Helen of Troy (obě 1975). Mimo nahrávek z těchto alb obsahuje též B-strany singlů a předtím nevydané outtaky.
