808 State. Manchester’s techno pioneers were formed in 1988 when Martin Price, owner of the city’s Eastern Bloc underground record store, teamed up with Graham Massey, formerly of Factory Records’ Biting Tongues and more recently known as a producer. The debut album, Newbuild, was cut in collaboration with fellow Mancunian Gerald Simpson.
Track 3: "Ancodia" is a shorter version of the "Taters Deep Nit Funky Beat Mix." Track 4: “Kinky National” is a remix of “State Ritual”. Track 6: “Cübik” is listed on disc as “Cubik”. Track 9: “Revenge Of The Girlie Men” is a remix of “Disco State”. Mixes on 5 and 12 are different to UK album versions.
808 State have been invited to perform our classic album “90” in sequence at the New Century Hall Manchester this December 2024 on the 35th anniversary of its release. In addition we will play a secondary set of tunes from the archive and some new material.
