It is with sadness that we share news of the passing of MBL Society Emeritus member Jewel Plummer Cobb who died on January 1, 2017 at the age of 92. Dr. Cobb, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, had been living in Maplewood, NJ. The MBL flag will be lowered in her memory.

Cobb passed at the top of the year at the age of 92 and lived a life rich with experiences despite attempts to thwart her rise. Cobb was born Jewel Plummer on this day in 1924 in Chicago, Ill.
Jewel Plummer Cobb was a professor of biology and zoology, and was president of California State University at Fullerton from 1981-1990. She earned a Ph.D. in cellular biology in 1950, and has held professorships at New York University, Sarah Lawrence College, Connecticut College in New London, Douglass College-Rutgers University, and California State University, Los Angeles.
