The last Labor head to become prime minister was Ehud Barak in 1999 and of the eight leaders of the party between Barak and Golan (nine if you count Barak's second stint), only Isaac Herzog, for a brief moment during the election campaign of 2015, seemed to have a chance of returning Israel's founding party to power.
