Sir Richard Julian Long CBE (* 2. Juni 1945 in Bristol, England) ist ein britischer Land-Art-Künstler. Long studierte von 1962 bis 1965 am West England College of Art in Bristol und von 1966 bis 1968 an der St. Martin's School of Art in London. 1988 wurde er mit dem Kunstpreis Aachen und 1989 mit dem Turner Preis ausgezeichnet.

Richard Julian Long wurde am 2. Juni 1945 in Bristol, England, geboren. Long studierte von 1962 bis 1965 am West England College of Art in Bristol und von 1966 bis 1968 an der St. Martin’s School of Art in London. In London war er Schüler von Anthony Caro und Phillip King. Zeitgleich studierte mit ihm Hamish Fulton, mit dem er sich anfreundete.

His very first land art work, A Line Made by Walking (1967), represents the beginning of Long’s use of the walk as medium. This straight line in a grass field is a sculpture created out of the artist’s constant and repetitive movement, where the compositional element consists solely of broken down grass juxtaposed with the unaffected areas either side of the walked on strip.
