Ronald Lee Ermey was born in Emporia, Kansas on March 24, 1944, and grew up on a farm with his parents and five brothers. He was familiar with guns from an early age, once recalling, “I used to hunt my way to the bus stop on the way to school every morning…I would stash my gear, my game and shotgun in a culvert, get on the bus and then hunt my way back home after school.”

Hartman in Stanley Kubrick’s “Full Metal Jacket,” has died. Ermey’s longtime manager Bill Rogin says he died Sunday morning from pneumonia-related complications.
