David Livingstone, né le 19 mars 1813 à Blantyre et mort le 1 er mai 1873 près du lac Bangwelo, est un médecin, missionnaire protestant et explorateur britannique qui contribua à la fois au développement et à la promotion de l'empire commercial britannique d'une part, à la lutte contre la traite esclavagiste et à l'évangélisation du Sud du continent africain d'autre part.

David Livingstone, (born March 19, 1813, Lanarkshire, Scot.—died May 1, 1873, Chitambo, Barotseland), Scottish missionary and explorer in Africa. Of working-class origins, Livingstone studied theology and medicine in Glasgow before being ordained (1840) and deciding to work in Africa to open up the interior for colonization, extend the Gospel, and abolish the slave trade.
