Pere Ubu è un gruppo musicale statunitense, originario di Cleveland e formatosi nel 1975 per iniziativa di David Thomas (ex componente dei Rocket from the Tombs) alla voce, e Peter Laughner alla chitarra, poi sostituito nel 1976 da Tom Herman. Nella front-line originale figuravano anche Allen Ravenstine (tastiere e sassofono), Scott Krauss (batteria) e Tony Maimone (basso).
Pere Ubu’s music exploited new technology, and in the 1990s the band released hybrid CD-ROMs that blended music, video, and text. Signing with smaller record labels seemed to inspire the group, and Ray Gun Suitcase (1995) and Pennsylvania (1998) were viewed by many as worthy additions to the band’s critically acclaimed oeuvre.Later albums included St. Arkansas (2002); Long Live Père Ubu!

Ubu Roi (French: [yby ʁwa]; "Ubu the King" or "King Ubu") is a play by French writer Alfred Jarry, then 23 years old.It was first performed in Paris in 1896, by Aurélien Lugné-Poe's Théâtre de l'Œuvre at the Nouveau-Théâtre (today, the Théâtre de Paris). The production's single public performance baffled and offended audiences with its unruliness and obscenity.
