Shot in black and white this only helps to increase the apprehension levels as the story progresses. Make no mistake this is a well told and made horror that moves along a good pace.

  3. 22 de mar. de 2024 · The director didn’t want a demon to appear at all, but the studio insisted and put that in the film during post-production. It might have been more interesting without seeing the demon. It’s considered a classic, and it has really nice visuals and dialogue, but it’s also very slow-paced; as Holden was putting Hobart into hypnosis, it was all I could do to not to nod off as well.

Jacques Tourneur is perhaps more famous these days for creating the atmosphere behind many of Val Lewton’s best psychological horrors but his work outside the stewardship of the creator of Cat People and I Walked with a Zombie is something of a rare treasure waiting to be uncovered.

  7. 19 de oct. de 2018 · Wie mein geschätzter Rezensionskollege Gavin Armour schon sagte, drehen sich Besprechungen des von Jacques Tourneur gedrehten Horror-Klassikers „Night of the Demon“ aus dem Jahre 1957 in aller Regel um die Frage, ob es klug oder schädlich war, dem Monster so viel Leinwandzeit zu geben – und auch die folgende Besprechung wird um diese Frage nicht ganz umhinkommen können.
