The Pacific Ocean is one of the world’s six oceans. It is the largest, the deepest, and the most polluted and stretches from the Americas to Asia. In it, there are numerous zones and natural wonders, such as the Great Barrier Reef, as well as evidence of human ignorance, like the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and species on the edge of extinction.
Pacific Ocean. The Pacific Ocean (from the Latin name Mare Pacificum, "peaceful sea," bestowed upon it by the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan) is the largest of the Earth 's oceanic divisions. It extends from the Arctic in the north to the Antarctic in the south, bounded by Asia and Australia on the west and the Americas on the east.

The Pacific Ocean’s average depth is the greatest of any ocean, and it also contains the deepest known oceanic trenches. The deepest, the Mariana Trench, with a depth of about 36,000 feet (11,000 meters), has a greater vertical dimension than the world’s highest mountain—Mount Everest, at 29,032 feet (8,849 meters).
