José Carlos Mariátegui was a Peruvian Marxist intellectual and founder of the Communist Party of Peru. His writings, particularly his historical-materialist analyses of his native Peru and the struggles of its Indigenous peoples, would go on to influence some of 20th century Latin America's most prominent revolutionaries.
