Terry and the Pirates (1940) is the 10th film serial released by Columbia. It is based on the comic strip Terry and the Pirates created by Milton Caniff . In his biography, Meanwhile... , Caniff stated that he hated the serial for changing so much of his comic strip, and that "I saw the first chapter and walked out screaming".
Although fame came to Caniff during his tenure on Terry & the Pirates, fortune eluded him, as ownership of the strip was vested in the syndicate that had commissioned it. That's why, in 1946, he followed in the footsteps of Roy Crane (who, a few years earlier, had created Buz Sawyer to replace Wash Tubbs ) and left Terry to create Steve Canyon, of which he had a "piece of the action".

Terry and the Pirates es una serie de aventuras que nació como una tira de historietas publicada diariamente en periódicos estadounidenses, comenzando por New York Daily News, a partir del día 22-X-1934, y Chicago Tribune, dos semanas después.Fue dibujada por Milton Caniff y por George Wunder hasta 1973, más otros autores en una recuperación en los años noventa.
