Pertwee was born on 4 June 1964 in Hammersmith, London, the son of the actor Jon Pertwee (who played the Third Doctor in Doctor Who) and his German second wife, Ingeborg Rhoesa.Playwright and screenwriter Roland Pertwee was his grandfather; his sister is actress Dariel Pertwee.. Pertwee received his formal education at Teddington Boys' School in Richmond upon Thames and Sunbury College, Surrey.
On television Pertwee appeared in the final episode of It Ain't Half Hot Mum (1981) and an episode of Hi-de-Hi! (1986). He played PC Wilson in You Rang, M'Lord? (1988–1993), another creation of Jimmy Perry and David Croft. The subject of This Is Your Life in 1999, Pertwee was surprised by Michael Aspel at the Imperial War Museum.
