Anshel Brusilow is soloist in this 1962 recording, preferable to the '72 remake. Symphonies Nos 1, 4, 5 and 10, and the Cello Concerto No 1. Ormandy seemed at his best in Russian works (see main text: Prokofiev). Symphonies Nos 1-7 minus 3/6 (see text) with two versions of Nos 1, 2 and the Concerto (Stern/Jenson), and short orchestral pieces.

During that time his name and the orchestra’s became inseparable as he cultivated and further developed the voluptuous sound that originated with his predecessor.
