16 de sept. de 2014 · When Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood joined forces again to record a new album, they sought common ground and inspiration in the intersection of improvisation and rhythms from the Afro-Latin diaspora. Their kinship both onstage and off has fostered an escalating degree of musical interplay, exquisitely captured on Juice – their third studio effort and fourth album overall.
An experimental trio from New York City, Medeski, Martin, & Wood straddle the gap between avant-garde improvisation and groove-based jazz. Keyboardist John Medeski, drummer/percussionist Billy Martin, and bassist Chris Wood released their first album in 1992, and several years of cross-country tours and groove-oriented albums made them a popular act in the jam band scene.

Each of the musicians — keyboardist John Medeski, drummer/percussionist Billy Martin, and bassist Chris Wood — had crossed paths throughout the ’80s, playing with the likes of John Lurie, John Zorn, and Martin mentor Bob Moses. In 1991, the trio officially convened for an engagement at New York’s Village Gate.
