The Naked Spur is one of the eight films that James Stewart and Anthony Mann collaborated on between 1950-1955, and the third of their five westerns overall. Stewart turns in a riveting performance as Howard Kemp, a cowboy ruthlessly looking to collect the bounty on wanted outlaw Ben Vandergroat (Robert Ryan), and it’s probably the least sympathetic character he has ever played.
