West made himself available for the 1960 NBA draft, and he was drafted with the second overall pick by the Minneapolis Lakers, shortly before the team relocated to Los Angeles. West became the first draft pick ever of the relocated franchise. His college coach was also hired to coach the Lakers.

18 de feb. de 2013 · Los Angeles Lakers owner Dr. Jerry Buss has died at age 80, according to a spokesperson for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Buss died at 5:55 a.m., according to Medical Center spokeswoman Sally Stewart.
