John Le Mesurier was an English actor with a prolific career on stage, film, radio and television, primarily in comedies and/or comic roles. Noted for his suave, often vague or confused demeanour, he rose to particular prominence in ITV sitcom George And The Dragon, before being cast in his defining role, as minor aristocrat Sergeant Wilson in Dad's Army.

Despite the fame, adulation and fortune that came his way while playing Wilson, Le Mesurier’s life was sadly filled with heartache and tragedy.
