Lewis also appeared on the ‘Memphis Country Blues Festival’ live album on Blue Horizon, and released ‘Presenting the Country Blues’ on the label in 1969. Listen.

  4. HEY LOCO FANS – Lets wish a big happy BDay to country blues guitarist “FurryLewis born this day in 1893 (or 1899). Lewis was born in Greenwood, Mississippi and his family moved to Memphis when he was seven. He acquired the nickname “Furry” from childhood playmates. By 1908, he was playing solo at parties, in taverns, and on the street.

  5. Classic country blues from the missippi delta. A wider recognition came almost too late but Joe appeared at the 1968 Memphis Blues Festival and was looking forward to a European tour. Unfortunately this album recorded in July 1968 became his last testement, dying in early 1969 and with him went the last echoes of Mississippi country blues.
