The House System is the heart of Rossall, it is central to school life in terms of: community. identity. pastoral. academic support. Rossall was part of a flurry of expansion in education during the early Victorian period and the School was granted a Royal Charter on 21 October 1890. Rossall was widely considered to be in the top 30 public schools in the UK and by the end of Queen Victoria’s reign its academic results were among the best in the country and enjoyed a reputation as ‘The Eton of the North’.
When presenting our results, we make no distinction between those studying within the main School and those studying on the Pre-Sixth Form or Foundation programmes. Consequently, the combined averages for all those who sat GCSE examinations this summer were: 7-9 37%. 6-9 57%. 4-9 93%.

Rossall awards a wide variety of scholarship awards each year to current and new pupils to the School. Means-tested bursaries can be offered to further supplement these awards. Scholarships are available for entry into years 7, 9 and 12 and scholarship application deadlines are at the end of the Michaelmas Term the year preceding entry.
