David Lawrence Geffen (born February 21, 1943) is an American film producer, record executive, and entrepreneur. In music, he co-founded Asylum Records (with Elliot Roberts) in 1971, and later founded Geffen Records in 1980 and DGC Records in 1990. In film, he founded the Geffen Film Company in 1986 and co-founded DreamWorks SKG (with Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg) in 1994.
Despite Janick's promotion to CEO of IGA, many artists felt discomforted including Keyshia Cole, 50 Cent, Beck, Chief Keef and Nelly Furtado. 50 Cent left Interscope Geffen A&M, taking his G-Unit imprint with him to sign with UMG sister label Capitol Records through its independent Caroline Records faction (now Virgin Music). Beck also followed suit, signing with Capitol as well.

Geffen Records was started by David Geffen in 1980. Its first album was Donna Summer's "The Wanderer", its second was "Double Fantasy", the last album by John Lennon (in collaboration with Yoko Ono). It was distributed in the US by Wea Distribution and internationally by WEA International Inc. throughout the 1980s.
