Han har gitt ut åtte album under eget navn i tillegg til forskjellige sideprosjekter med vokalister som Kristin Asbjørnsen, Silje Nergaard, Siri Gjære, Solveig Slettahjell og Simin Tander. Gustavsen er oppvokst i Hurdal og er utdannet ved Jazzlinja i Trondheim og ved Universitetet i Oslo.
