The efforts of a year are devoted to the wild silk and rhinestone costumes they make for Mardi Gras; kind of Indian in drag or in a Las Vegas revue. Their music is driving and hypnotic. Cajun. I can think of little that's as high spirited as the Wild Tschoupitoulas.

  5. The Wild Tchoupitoulas were originally a group of Mardi Gras Indians formed in the early 1970s by George Landry. With help from local New Orleans musicians — The Meters — The Wild Tchoupitoulas recorded an eponymous album, which featured the “call-and-response” style chants typical of Mardi Gras Indians.
