  1. MERCERS' SCHOOL, COLLEGE HILL, DOWGATE. A school for 70 scholars, without restriction of age or place, founded and endowed by the Mercers' Company. It originally stood adjoining the Mercers' Chapel in Cheapside, of which indeed it formed a part, and was removed to its present site in 1808.
