Giant Sand's masterpiece may well be the 25-minute jam BBQ Suite, off the largely improvised Backyard Barbecue Broadcast (1995), which stands as a summary of Gelb's nebulous vision up to this point. Gelb later mustered enough consciousness to craft Chore Of Enchantment (1999), one of his tighter and more focused works, and probably the most personal and touching of Gelb's "adult" phase.
