On his third full-length, Savage Hills Ballroom , Powers eases into the middle between the hush and the boom, foregrounding his voice and his lyrics for his starkest, most focused effort yet.

Pepper rock ‘n’ roll purity suggested by the cover’s retro block lettering, Savage Hills Ballroom is forceful and formally rigorous in a fashion yet unseen from Powers.
22 de sept. de 2015 · Savage Hills Ballroom is another strong, stirring release from Powers, marked by rough edges and refined vulnerability. Powers dives headfirst into the sonic toy chest once again — the alarm clock and horns of “The Knower,” the cheerleading on “No One Can Tell” — but Powers’ near feminine, fragile tenor vocal holds the pieces of this experimental puzzle in place.

He's still transmitting directly from the vagus nerve, and the anxiety behind each track is palpable, but it's madness delivered with a confectioner's touch.
