Made in 1939 as war drums were beating, this movie is, to me, the pinnacle of Renoir’s achievement. The film opens with the news of a successful transatlantic flight by Andre Jurieu (Roland Toutain), who is met at the airport by his friend, Octave (played by Renoir himself).
