If you are entering UMass Amherst with an exemplary academic school record, then you may be considered for admission to the Commonwealth Honors College. There is no separate application process; students are notified of their selection with their general letter of admission.
Each year, we search for students who will bring their unique strengths and diverse talents to the UMass Amherst campus. We conduct an individualized review of applications with careful consideration of a student’s academic achievements, personal qualities, and motivation.
For example, at UMass Amherst last year the middle 50% testing range on the SAT for enrolling first-year students was 1330-1490. This means that of the 29,000 admitted first-year students, about 14,500 (the half in the middle) had a score that was in the range.
With a graduate faculty of 1,400, the Amherst campus is the major research institution in the five-campus UMass system and offers 48 programs leading to a doctorate and 78 programs toward a master’s degree. Enrollment in all graduate programs exceeds 6,500 with an additional 600 nonmatriculated students enrolled in classes.
