In 1942 and 1943 Max Beckmann painted another of his triptychs while in exile in Amsterdam: Carnival, also referred to as “Carnival in Amsterdam” in his list of pictures and initially titled Adam und Eva in his diaries.

German painter Max Beckmann created the triptych painting “Carnival” in 1942-1943 while in exile in Amsterdam. Measuring 75 x 33 9/16 inches and executed with oil on linen canvas, the artwork was initially titled “Adam und Eva” before being known as “Carnival in Amsterdam.”

15 de oct. de 2016 · In 2003, Tate Modern exhibited Carnival as part of the retrospective exhibition 'Max Beckmann', in collaboration with the New York Museum of Modern Art and The Centre Pompidou. Carnival is one of the early works he created five years after his breakdown as a medical orderly in the First World War.
9 de mar. de 2015 · The nine triptychs 1 which individually and as a group may be regarded as his major philosophic and artistic statements, have received much critical attention. 2 But there is one notable exception, the Carnival triptych executed in Amsterdam in 1943 and now owned by the State University of Iowa.
