The logo and identity for The CW were created by Troika Design Group. The new logo was unveiled in May 2006, and The CW launched on September 18, 2006, formed by the merger of The WB and UPN.

Logo used from September 18, 2006, to January 13, 2024. Like both UPN and the WB, the CW targets its programming towards younger audiences. CBS and Time Warner hoped that combining their networks' schedules and affiliate lineups would strengthen the CW into a fifth "major" broadcast network.
