Shepherd Ivory Franz (May 27, 1874 – October 14, 1933) was an American psychologist. He was the first chairman of the psychology department at the University of California, Los Angeles and served as president of the American Psychological Association.

Between 1904 and 1907, he was a psychologist at the McLean Hospital, in Waverley, MA, where he established a psychological laboratory (Watson, 1953) and “acquired a working knowledgeof current psychiatry and a more intimate acquaintance with the facts of abnormal psychology” (Franz, 1932, p. 106).
