A model text, written by a teacher as part of the planning process for a specific topic to be taught, encapsulates and summarises the intended learning, including content and language, as well as guiding the scope and sequence of the topic.
The TLC involves explicit teaching about language choices in different text types. Model texts can be modified or even created by the teacher to emphasise the key features of a text type. The content and language can then be tailored so that it is within the zone of proximal development for EAL/D students. When selecting or preparing a model text:
