Labyrinthulomycetes or Labyrinthulea is a class of protists that produce a network of filaments or tubes, which serve as tracks for the cells to glide along and absorb nutrients for them. The two main groups are the labyrinthulids (or slime nets) and thraustochytrids.
3.4.3 Labyrinthulomycetes. The Labyrinthulomycetes are heterotrophic, filamentous protists that are classified in the Stramenopiles, comprised mainly of marine species. Most are saprotrophic decomposers, with some acting as parasites (Tsui et al., 2009).

Consta de una clase, Labyrinthulomycetes (o Labyrinthulea, si empleamos la nomenclatura zoológica). Su principal característica es la formación de una red mucosa extracelular producida por unos orgánulos celulares, los botrosomas.
