El Teatro del Mundo fue diseñado para el Bienal de Venecia de 1979-1980. La idea era evocar los teatros flotantes, tan característicos de la ciudad y sus carnavales, en el siglo XVIII. Se construyó en un astillero veneciano y se remolcó por mar a su sitio, en el medio del agua, donde permaneció durante la Bienal.
El arquitecto italiano Aldo Rossi realizó el Teatro del Mondo (Teatro del Mundo), una construcción flotante de carácter temporal que albergaba en su interior un teatro para un aforo de 250 personas, con motivo de la Bienal de Arquitectura y Teatro de Venecia del año 1979.
