Founded in 1881 as the Atlanta Baptist Female Seminary, Spelman College is the oldest historically Black college for women in America.
Spelman College is a private, historically Black, women's liberal arts college in Atlanta, Georgia. It is a founding member of the Atlanta University Center academic consortium.
Spelman College has been recognized among the top 100 national liberal arts colleges, and for the 16th straight year, is the No. 1 historically Black college and university in the country, according to the 2022 U.S. News & World Report "Best Colleges" rankings.
