Jonathan ben Uzziel ( Hebrew: יונתן בן עוזיאל) was one of the 80 tannaim who studied under Hillel the Elder during the time of Roman-ruled Judea. [1] A book of kabbalah known as Sefer Migdanim has been attributed to him. [2] Jonathan ben Uzziel is mentioned several times in the Talmud. [3]
The greatest of all of Hillel's disciples was Jonathan ben Uzziel; the smallest among them was Rabban Yochanan ben Zakkai, who was familiar with all the hidden secrets of the holy Torah. Thus our Sages described the greatness of Hillel and his disciples.

Jonathan ben Uzziel (1st century CE) was considered the greatest of Hillel the Elder’s students. Jonathan ben Uzziel wrote his translation of the Prophets based on traditions going back to the prophets Haggai , Zechariah and Malachi .
