Mediaeval Studies is the annual journal published by the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies. The journal was established in 1939 and from the outset its purpose has been the publication of research on the Middle Ages by scholars throughout the world, particularly research involving unedited manuscript and archival material.
The Institute has over 300 titles in print, as well as the journal Mediaeval Studies; it also publishes volumes on behalf of the Centre for Medieval Studies and The Dictionary of Old English in the University of Toronto. PIMS titles are usually part of a numbered series, and some are assigned a secondary series as well.
The Institute publishes studies, texts, translations, reference works, and collections of articles relating to the history and culture of the middle ages. Submissions may be in French or English. The Institute’s annual journal, Mediaeval Studies, has been published continuously since 1939.
The Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies (PIMS) is a research institute in the University of Toronto that is dedicated to advanced studies in the culture of the Middle Ages.
The Licentiate in Mediaeval Studies (LMS), the Institute’s post-doctoral academic programme, was initiated in 1998–1999. Four applicants from Canada, the United States, and Europe were accepted in the charter year. Since then, the programme continues to attract a broad range of scholars working in mediaeval studies.
