A series of Sherlock Holmes adaptations, based on the stories of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Peter Cushing plays Holmes in 16 episodes of the colour series, after Douglas Wilmer in 29 episodes of the black and white series.
Finally, Peter Cushing was approached to take over the role of Sherlock Holmes for the 1968 series. Having already played Holmes in the Hammer films adaptation of The Hound of the Baskervilles (1959), Cushing was eager to play the role again.
