Oklahoma State University–Stillwater (officially Oklahoma State University; informally OSU, OK State, Oklahoma State) is a public land-grant research university in Stillwater, Oklahoma. OSU was founded in 1890 under the Morrill Act.
Oklahoma State University was founded as Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College on Dec. 25, 1890, just 20 months after the Land Run of 1889. When the first students assembled for class on Dec. 14, 1891, no buildings, books or curriculum existed. Land-grant universities were made possible by the Morrill Acts of 1862, 1890 and 1994.
