Nigel Preston (4 April 1963, Birmingham, England – 1 April 1992) was an English drummer. He was a founding member of the Cult. He also played and recorded with Theatre of Hate, Sex Gang Children, the Baby Snakes, the Gun Club and DeLuca.

Astbury referred to the record as a collection of "very personal and very revealing" songs about his life, with the subject matter ranging from sexual abuse at the age of 15, to the death of Nigel Preston, to his directionless years spent in Glasgow in the late 1970s.
Nigel Preston remained detached – at his shows in the Eighties and Nineties he was known for his brief half-hour appearances to receive accolades.
After the release of a self-titled debut EP, the group fired Mondo in September and replaced him with Nigel Preston of Sex Gang Children (Mondo took Preston's place in Sex Gang Children). Death Cult issued one more release under their original name, "Gods Zoo", before renaming themselves the Cult in January 1984.

One of the earliest songs written for what would become the Love album, "She Sells Sanctuary" was first performed during the Dreamtime tour in the fall of 1984, and would become the last song to be recorded with the Cult's longtime drummer, Nigel Preston, who was fired from the band shortly
