John Paul Larkin (March 13, 1942 – December 3, 1999), known professionally as Scatman John, was an American singer-songwriter and musician. A prolific jazz pianist and vocalist for several decades, he rose to prominence during the 1990s through his fusion of scat singing and dance music.

Biography. John Paul Larkin was born in El Monte, California, on 13th March 1942. John stuttered ever since he started talking. He recalled he “couldn’t remember ever being fluent.”. When he was growing up in nearby El Sereno, John used to pretend to play piano on his mother’s coffee table, until he got his own at the age of 12.
