The grandson of the Islamic prophet Muhammad and a son of Ali ibn Abi Talib and Muhammad's daughter Fatima, as well as a younger brother of Hasan ibn Ali, Husayn is regarded as the third Imam (leader) in Shia Islam after his brother, Hasan, and before his son, Ali al-Sajjad.

Husayn ibn Ali es una figura central en la historia del Islam, especialmente reconocido en la rama chiíta. Nació en el año 626 d.C. en la ciudad sagrada de La Meca. Husayn era nieto del Profeta Mahoma, siendo el segundo hijo de Ali ibn Abi Talib y Fatimah Zahra, la hija de Mahoma.

He is revered by Shi’i Muslims as the third imam. Husayn was killed in the Battle of Karbala in 680 after joining an uprising against the Umayyad caliphs.
After the death of the 3rd Caliph Osman, Husain’s father ‘Ali (as) was compelled by the people of Madinah overwhelmingly to take the reigns of power. ‘Ali (as) was reluctant and waited for three days before accepting the mantle of worldly power along with the authority of Imamah.
