Balliol College (/ ˈ b eɪ l i əl /) is a constituent college of the University of Oxford. Founded in 1263 by John I de Balliol, it has a claim to be the oldest college in Oxford and the English-speaking world. Members of Balliol have been awarded 13 Nobel Prizes with 12 Laureates (the most of any Oxford college).

Founded in 1263, Balliol is one of Oxford’s oldest colleges; the oldest academic institution in the English-speaking world still on its original site; and almost certainly the oldest co-founded by a woman anywhere. It is also one of Oxford’s largest colleges. Led by the Master, the community consists of about 70 Fellows.
History. Balliol has existed as a community of scholars on its present Broad Street site without interruption since about 1263. By this token it claims to be the oldest college in Oxford, and in the English-speaking world.
About the college. Centrally located on Broad Street, Balliol is close to laboratories, lecture theatres, libraries and shops. Balliol led the way in turning Oxford into a place open to all on merit.
